     Kawasan Falls

Some 115 km (or 2,5 -3 hours drive) south-west of Cebu City you'll find

Kawasan Falls

(Location: Matutinao, Badian - CEBU).

From the parking area you'll have to walk 45 minutes along a very rocky and narrow path, but even though it is a bit humbling bumbling it is worth it, just take it easy and enjoy the walk along the beautiful river. Look at all the different kind of tropical plants - it is not every day you'll have that many beautiful impressions.
You'll have to cross 3 small bridges before reaching the falls, even though you might feel for passing them very fast, try to stop at the middle of number 3 and look upstream, your camera will jump for pleasure if you allow it to take a few shots and you will have a forever lasting picture of what might have been, or - is Paradise .

     Historical Sites

Lapulapu

is considered one of the greatest figures of ancient Philippine history. Although the first thing that usually comes to mind when the name of Lapulapu is mentioned is the fact that his battle with Magellan led to Magellan's death, Lapulapu is not honored because of that. Rather, he is honored because he was among the first to reject submission to a foreign power even though Raja1 Humabon, ruler of the neighboring island of Cebu, and other chiefs recognized the king of Spain as their sovereign and agreed to pay tribute.

On April 27, 1521, Magellan and some sixty of his men battled with the forces of Lapulapu on the shores of Mactan island. During the battle, Magellan was wounded in the leg. Seeing this, several members of Lapulapu's forces rushed at Magellan and killed him with their spears. With the death of Magellan, the Spaniards retreated to their ships and left. Lapulapu's victory is celebrated annually with a re-enactment of the battle at the site where the original battle is believed to have occurred.

Magellan's Cross

The wooden cross which Magellan brought with him in the year 1521 when he first set foot in the Philippines at a place called Sugbu, now Cebu, has been preserved and is now encased in an outer layer of tindalo wood, mounted on a concrete pedestal, and housed in a tile-roofed kiosk. At the roof of the kiosk is a painting depicting the landing of Magellan in Cebu and the planting of the original cross on the shore.

To Christian Filipinos, this cross symbolizes the victory of Jesus Christ in the Far East, particularly in the Philippines.

Mac Arthur Landing Memorial

Located on Red Beach, Palo Leyte can be reached by public transport or any private vehicle. Monument marking the spot where General Mac Arthur landed with the Liberation Forces; lagoon where the statues of the life-size stand; beautiful beach; panoramic view of Leyte Gulf and Samar Island.
